Crossfit Kids class 3/08/2010

We introduced a new movement in class today....the oompa loompa! Yes it sounds silly but this is just a neat way to get the kids visualize what the "push press" looks like. Remember the dance the little orange guys  performed on Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory? Well, add and overhead press and you basically get the push press. The kids had fun with this one and we incorporated it into the workout. 10 walking lunge steps and 10 oompa loompa's. The game was Crossfit basketball. The kids had to shoot a basketball and if the made  a shot they would all perform 5 "press ups to the sky". If they missed they would do 5 butterfly squats. Little Elsa missed her first few trys and you should have seen the look of suprise and happiness when she finally hit her shot. Simply priceless!

first Saturday and wall balls

Today was the first Saturday of our Crossfit Kids program. One of the best things about the Saturday class is it runs at the same time as our 9 am adults class so moms and dads can come to Crossfit with their kids! Todays new skill was wall ball,a movement this is a Crossfit staple . Simple squat to below parallel and as you stand up you throw your medicine ball at a target on the wall. With our Crossfit Relentless kids we use soft balls, basket balls and for the oolder kids we use 4 and 6 lb medicine balls. They love,it just seems natural for kids to throw a ball at the wall. Our work out was 10 wall balls and then  one traverse of the monkey bar, repeat for 5 -10 minutes. Our game was crossfit kickball, once they kick the ball they get to perform 5 butterfly quats. When you make it fun kids will do almost anything you ask. Our hope is to make this so much fun they forget they are exercising and learn to make this a part of their life forever. We are off to a good start!

Parents night out

Our parents night out fundraiser to benefit the connecticut Childrens Medical Center was a huge success! About 25 young athletes came out to Crossfit and have some fun. Moms and Dads got a much needed night out and we raised almost $400 for a great cause. Our brand new 2000 square foot kids facility was a smashing hit with all the kids. The climbed, shot hoops, did wall balls(yes,...I said wall balls!) swung on monkey bars and everyone got a turn on our zip line! The wod was 10 butterfly squats followed by crab walks and bear crawls. The game was Clean the Yard. The kids all had to throw the garbage(wall balls) into the other teams yard. The team with the least garbage won. Smile were everywhere to be seen and we ended the night with movie night and watched..Cloudy with a chance of meatballs on our giant 20 foot inflatable movie theater. Thank you all for allowing us to have a great night with your kids and thank you for donating to a great cause!
